Psychotherapy & Movement based Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy, as explained by the American Psychiatric Association, is a way to help people with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. Psychotherapy can help eliminate or control troubling symptoms so a person can function better and can increase well-being and healing.

Problems helped by psychotherapy include:

  • difficulties in coping with daily life
  • the impact of trauma
  • medical illness or loss like the death of a loved one
  • Specific mental disorders, like depression or anxiety.
  • Psychotherapy may also be used in combination with medication or other therapies.

Research shows that most people who receive psychotherapy experience symptom relief and are better able to function in their lives. Psychotherapy has been shown to improve emotions and behaviors and to be linked with positive changes in the brain and body. The benefits also include fewer sick days, less disability, fewer medical problems, and increased work satisfaction.

Movement Psychotherapy (or DMP) works on the notion that movement is an essential way to express, communicate, learn and explore who we are and how we relate.

Our focus is on providing a safe space to individuals/groups to express their difficulties through body, movement, and non-verbal communication.

It plays an important role in healing long-term emotional problems, mental health conditions and offers a space to develop positive relationships with others. Individuals with physical disabilities or less movement abilities can also receive DMP sessions.

Harnessed therapeutically and irrespective of age, culture and background, the main focus, at The Safe Sanctuary, is on our client(s) and their mental health needs.

You don’t need to have any previous dance experience or training!

We, at The Safe Sanctuary, offer a confidential, safe and a non-judgemental space that helps clients explore their movements developing from their own emotions. Music, fabrics and other props are available during these sessions to explore their creativity and express freely.
